Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that 2,128 posts referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) have been advertised, while 1,982 posts referred to the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) are yet to be advertised.
The information was provided by the General Administration Department in response to a starred question raised by MLA Vijay Kumar regarding cadre/department-wise vacant posts referred to recruiting agencies during the last two years, the number of posts advertised and recruitment-related application fees.
The government, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that in respect of the J&K Public Service Commission, details of vacant posts referred to the Commission are given in the annexure. During the period, the Commission has advertised 2,128 posts, while the remaining posts will be advertised shortly.
About the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB), the government said details of the referred posts are given in separate annexures. As many as 1,982 posts are yet to be advertised and will be advertised after completion of the required formalities as prescribed under the regulations.
Regarding application and examination fees, the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) received 1,69,632 applications against advertised posts from April 1, 2024 onwards, including figures for 2024-25, 2025-26 and from April 1, 2026 till date.
The Commission collected ₹15,00,99,000 as examination and application fees from October 2024 to August 2026 and incurred expenditure of ₹14,90,48,575 during the period. The government said the unutilized balance for the period from August 2024 to September 2026 was nil.
The JKSSB collected ₹81,15,41,900 in fees against advertised posts during 2024 and 2025, while an expenditure of ₹27,88,42,444 was incurred during the last two financial years.
Of the total fee collected by JKSSB, ₹56,67,94,200 pertains to applications for examinations that are yet to be conducted, the government said.
It further clarified that expenditure cannot be assessed solely against the fee collected during a particular period, as expenditure is incurred at different stages and is adjusted against examination-related expenditure of different examinations conducted by the recruiting agencies.
On measures to ensure expeditious recruitment against advertised vacant posts, the government said several steps have been taken, including timely identification and referral of vacancies to recruiting agencies, adherence to the prescribed statutory framework, advance planning of recruitment cycles and close monitoring of recruitment timelines.
The government also said efforts have been made to streamline procedures, strengthen coordination with recruiting agencies and leverage technology to expedite the recruitment process while ensuring transparency, fairness and merit.
It added that directions have already been issued to all departments for timely referral of vacancies falling under their direct quota to the recruiting agencies under SRO-166 of 2005 dated May 14, 2005, and Circular No. 01-JK(GAD) of 2024 dated January 1, 2024—(KNO)
